Whether you’re looking for nonplastic Fogo cups and containers or a nontoxic Laptop Lunch, you’ve come to the right place. Free From Plastic provides you with a range of nonplastic and/or nontoxic items for you and your kids.

My goal with this website is to provide information on hip, attractive and even beautiful reusable and nonplastic items that you can use in your everyday life.

I started this site after I had my first child and realized how many plastic toys are made for children. When my child started to put toys into her mouth, I started to wonder what she might be ingesting. Although I was always concerned about the environment and recycled the glass, aluminum and paper that I used, I became more concerned after wondering what the world would be like in 40 years when my daughter is 42.

It wasn’t long before I started to look around and wonder about those plastic forks we use, those sippy cups made of leaching plastic (eek!), the plastic baggies for snacks, the plastic containers that store our food, and the toys my daughter plays with in the bathtub. I was horrified to learn that sippy cups are made of plastic that leaches. As soon as I learned that, I went out and bought a Klean Kanteen and a SIGG for my daughter.

My husband and I also have SIGGs and a Klean Kanteen. What can I say? It gives me a thrill to know how many plastic water bottles I’ve not used since I bought my SIGG. In case you’re curious — or if you have an unconvinced friend, spouse, family member, coworker, etc — here are a few facts about plastic and paper waste:

  • In the United States, 100 BILLION plastic bags are used per year, and fewer than 1% are recycled.
  • More than 20 million barrels of oil produce those bags!
  • Australia, Ireland, South Africa, India and Kenya already have plastic-bag bans in certain areas.
  • San Francisco recently passed a bill banning plastic shopping bags in their city.

Is a Paper Bag Better?

  • These bags use 4 times as much energy in creation than plastic.
  • 85 times as much energy as plastic is required to recycle them.
  • Paper can use up to 9 times more space in landfills than plastic.

The stats above are adapted from Go-Again Bags.
